Getting Ready for a Study Abroad

Welcome to my blog for D-Term study abroad in Germany. North Central College offers a variety of study abroad locations and 19 other students and myself have chosen to go to Deutschland this coming Winter 2011. I have a degree in culinary arts and am currently working on a degree in accounting. Half my family is German, but I've never even been to Europe. I'm looking forward to learning about my heritage, some history, and eating a lot of German food. Hopefully I can make friends with some cooks and chefs there too. But before I get ahead of myself, this summer is going to encompass a lot of preparation for the trip. Besides reading Germany, A New History, I'll try to learn a few German phrases. The language is the hardest part for me. I have a hard time with them and they usually run together: when I start speaking French it turns into Spanish with some English thrown it. :) But what better way to kick off studying than eating. Here's a photo taken at the Bavarian Lodge on Ogden. They have good pretzels and schnitzel.
